SELF PORTRAIT 2021 by Carla Harvey

Artist Carla says… “I like to do a self portrait every year.  2020 and 21 were life changing for me, moving from my home of twenty years in Hollywood back to the midwest (in the middle of a pandemic none the less).  I had a certain amount of grief leaving my life behind and drawing this was like therapy.  There are nods to my life in both the sex and death industries in this copic marker piece, and the grave shape behind me is full of tiny details from my life in LA.  I will say that after a year of living away from Los Angeles I’ve adapted and I love the clean air and room to breathe…but part of me will always be….in the words of The Presidents of the United States of America band song Stranger: ”Carla The stripper, straight from LA!”
